34 Years Later

Gatineau, Québec and work as a Web strategist at Citizenship and Immigration Canada. I have also lived in Victoria, Winnipeg and Montreal for significant amounts of time and worked at many different jobs. I would say I’m happier now with where I live and work than I’ve ever been.p>

From the Beginning

I grew up in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, just as it was getting famous. I attended Colonel John Butler Public School (1972-80) and then Niagara District High School (1980-84).

While I was growing up, I worked for Goertz Equipment, a John Deere dealership owned and operated by the Goertz family, and Glenlake Orchards, a huge tender fruit farm owned and operated by Peter Buis and his two sons, Peter and Kevin.

In 1986, I moved to Brampton, Ontario where I drove truck for Kord Products for six years. I left in 1992 to travel through Canada and then Central and South America. During this time, I acquired a feeling for the diversity and size of Canda and a love of Spanish, and my wife Monique Charron, who’s not Spanish, but I love her anyway.

In 1995, I decided to try my luck at University. I did a B.A. in Linguistics and Spanish and then moved on to the graduate programme. I officially graduated from University of Toronto in 2001 with a Masters of Arts in Linguistics.

I was also interested in teaching for a few years. I worked as a teaching assistant throughout my university career and also as an ESL teacher. More information is available on my resume and philosophy and assumptions pages.

Family

I have two daughters, Chloée (age 5) and Corrine (age 2). They keep me very busy, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world.

Interests

I’m involved in several ventures and have lots of hobbies. The list of Faves on the left is a good example of some of the things I’m interested in. I especially love photography, poetry and writing, and when it comes to work around the yard and the house, I believe in “doing it myself.”
